Verisign, the Registry for .com domains, is applying a 7% .com price increase from 01/09/2023. Konet has decided to absorb the increase in full and keep .com domain prices unchanged for its customers.
These increases will be annual through 2024, as provided for in the agreement Verisign currently has in force with ICANN.
What a .com domain costs registrars
From 1 September 2023, the cost of a .com domain for registrars rises to $9.77 from the current $9.15. On top of this comes the ICANN fee every time, $0.18 for each transaction (registration, renewal, transfer).
In other words, registrars will now buy each .com at $9.95. From there on, each registrar adds its own extra charges to us.
So any price below $10.00 you see for registering a .com domain is below cost. It is a promotional offer that usually means a much higher price when you renew the domain.
Steady .com prices at Konet
At Konet we decided to absorb this increase in full, as a practical way of supporting our customers. So we are keeping .com domain prices unchanged until the next increase, expected in 2024. You will find the latest change in the .com domain prices from 31/10/2026.
In a new article that we will publish on our Blog in a few days, we will explain in detail how .com domain increases come about, what applies to ICANN and Verisign and where the domain industry is heading. We will also take a special look at .net domains, which are also managed by Verisign.
