.gr Domain Owner Transfer: Changing the Registrant with gov.gr Declarations

An Owner Transfer changes the owner of a Greek domain to a different person or company. In this article you will find when it is needed, which documents are required (solemn declarations via gov.gr), how to submit the request from your account, and how much it costs.

When an Owner Transfer is needed for a .gr domain

An Owner Transfer is used when a domain changes owner, that is, it passes to a different person or company. Examples:

  • Selling a domain to a third party
  • Transferring a company domain to a new company
  • Inheriting a domain

If only the name changes (e.g. the company KONET EPE becomes KONET AE), no transfer is needed; see the article "Owner Name Change".

Required documents

The transfer requires 2 solemn declarations issued via gov.gr, in PDF format (maximum 10MB each):

  1. Solemn Declaration of the Current Owner (via gov.gr)
  2. Solemn Declaration of the New Owner (via gov.gr)

No documents other than the two solemn declarations above are accepted.

What each Solemn Declaration must state

Solemn Declaration of the Current Owner

The current owner must declare that:

  • The domain example.gr belongs to them
  • They have agreed to and wish to transfer it to [Full Name of New Owner]
  • The effective date of the transfer is [date]

Where [Full Name of New Owner]:

  • If the new owner is an individual: their full name, VAT number (Tax ID), street address and number, city, prefecture, postcode, phone, email
  • If the new owner is a company: the company name and the full name of the legal representative/responsible person, street address and number, city, prefecture, postcode, phone, email, VAT number (Tax ID), Tax Office (DOY)

The solemn declaration must be issued from the gov.gr account of the current owner (or of the legal representative, in the case of a company).

Solemn Declaration of the New Owner

The new owner must declare that:

  • They wish to acquire the domain example.gr, which currently belongs to [Full Name of Current Owner]

    • Full name
    • Company name (optional, only if it is a legal entity)
    • VAT number (Tax ID)
    • Street address and number

  • If the current owner is a company: the company name and the full name of the legal representative/responsible person, street address and number, city, prefecture, postcode, phone, email, VAT number (Tax ID), Tax Office (DOY)

Important: The full name given in the new owner's details must match the full name of the person issuing the solemn declaration via gov.gr. In the case of a company, the solemn declaration is issued by the legal representative.
