What is SSH access in cPanel and why do I need it?
SSH (Secure Shell) is a protocol that allows secure remote access to your cPanel account through commands in a terminal.
With SSH you can:
-
Manage files and folders directly on the server
-
Run scripts or cron jobs
-
Run diagnostics and troubleshooting faster than through the graphical interface
It is a powerful tool, but for exactly this reason it is also a frequent target of attacks.
Why is SSH access disabled by default?
On Konet's servers, SSH access to cPanel accounts is disabled by default.
The reason is security:
-
The SSH port is one of the most common targets of brute-force attacks.
-
Locking down access blocks thousands of attempts every day.
-
This significantly reduces the risk of your account being compromised.
How can I get SSH access?
Access is enabled only on request and once specific requirements are met:
-
Open a ticket with Support
Ask for SSH to be enabled on your cPanel account. -
Static Greek IPv4
You will need to declare a static Greek IPv4 address that will be linked to your account.-
IP addresses from a VPN are not accepted.
-
The IP must belong to a Greek provider.
-
-
Compatible hosting plan
SSH access is provided only on plans that support it (VPS or specific shared plans). -
Fill in a form
Support will send you a form where you will enter your details and your static IP.
After approval, Konet will open SSH exclusively for that specific IP.

For greater security, we recommend using SSH keys instead of a plain password.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What if I don't have a static IP?
Unfortunately, we cannot open SSH. A static Greek IPv4 is required for whitelisting and protection.
2. Can I use IPv6?
No, access is only available over IPv4.
3. Is there a charge?
Activation depends on the hosting plan. Ask Sales/Support whether there are any additional charges.
4. Can I declare multiple IPs?
As a rule, only one IP is whitelisted. In special cases more can be added on request.
5. Is SSH secure?
Yes, as long as you use it correctly:
-
Strong passwords or SSH keys
-
Connect only from your declared IP
-
Avoid public Wi-Fi
